Common questions

How do I turn an image into a favicon?

Choose, drop or paste one JPG, PNG or still WebP image. Check the preview and download the package. A simple square logo, at least 512 × 512 pixels, gives the clearest result at all sizes. Small images work too, but enlarging them cannot add detail.

Can I make a favicon from a single letter or initials?

Yes. Choose Letter, enter one or two letters or numbers, then choose text and background colors, a square, rounded or circular shape, and a simple font. Preview the result and download the same ICO and PNG package. Short, bold text with contrasting colors is easiest to recognize in a browser tab.

Can I make a favicon from an emoji?

Yes. Choose Emoji, pick a suggestion or paste one emoji from your device’s emoji keyboard, then download the same ICO and PNG package. Joined emoji, skin tones, flags and keycap emoji are supported as one symbol. Tulo uses local Twemoji vector artwork for consistent, sharp icons across devices. Artwork is rasterized at 512 pixels before creating the smaller sizes. The package includes Twemoji attribution. Unsupported emoji show an error so you can choose another.

What files are included?

The ZIP includes favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 pixel icons, PNG favicons at 16 and 32 pixels, a 180 pixel Apple touch icon, 192 and 512 pixel Android icons, a site.webmanifest and a README with installation HTML. The manifest contains icon declarations; icons alone do not make your site an installable app.

How do I add the favicon to my website?

Unzip the package, put its icon files and manifest in your public website folder and add the supplied HTML inside the head of your pages. Adjust the paths if your site is in a subfolder. Website builders often provide a site icon setting instead. Browsers cache favicons, so an updated icon may take a refresh or cache clear to appear.

Will my image be cropped or lose transparency?

Fit image preserves the full design on a transparent square. Fill square crops the edges to fill the square. PNG and ICO icons keep transparency; the Apple touch icon uses a white background. The previews show the fit you selected.

Are images uploaded or stored?

No. Your image and generated icons stay in your browser. Leaving or refreshing the tool clears the image. Save your package before leaving.

Which images can I use?

Use one still JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 20 MB, 50 megapixels and 16,383 pixels per side. Animated images, SVG, HEIC and existing ICO files are not supported. A damaged or unsupported replacement leaves your current image available.
