Common questions
How do I find a HEX color from an image?
Choose a JPG, PNG or still WebP image and click or tap the part you want to sample. Click the HEX value to copy it. RGB and HSL are available alongside it. The initial selection is near the center of your image.
Does the preview resize change the picked color?
The preview fits your screen, but a click maps to a pixel in the original oriented image. The tool reads that pixel, not the smoothed preview. Browser decoding, color profiles, transparency and image compression can affect the resulting RGB values; this is not a print color calibration tool.
How is the suggested palette made?
A small image sample is grouped into common RGB colors and up to six distinct suggestions are shown. Mostly transparent pixels are ignored. The palette is approximate; click a precise point in the image when you need a particular pixel. A transparent image can have no suggested palette.
Can I pick a color with the keyboard or phone?
Yes. Tap the image on a phone. With a keyboard, focus the image and use arrow keys to move one original pixel at a time, or Shift plus arrows to move ten. Home and End select the first and last pixels. The crosshair shows your selection.
What happens with transparent pixels?
The selected color includes its opacity. HEX uses eight digits when alpha is below 100%; RGB and HSL values include alpha too. The checkerboard helps show transparency. The checkerboard is not included in the sampled color.
Are my images uploaded or stored?
No. Image processing and color sampling happen in your browser. Leaving or refreshing clears the image. Use one still JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB, 50 megapixels and 16,383 pixels per side. Animated images, SVG and HEIC are not supported. An invalid replacement leaves your current image available.
